Ermira (Hoxha) Kalaj është pedagoge e Universitetit të Shkodrës që nga viti 2015. Ka marrë gradën Doktor (Ph.D.) në “Economics and Management” pranë Universitetit të Trento-s, Itali. Mban titullin akademik “Profesor”marrë pranë Universitetit të Tiranës. Ajo ka qenë e përfshirë në projekte kërkimore të financuara nga institucione ndërkombëtare si UNCTAD, Fondacioni CERGE-EI, Universiteti i Oksfordit, etj. Gjithashtu ka eksperiencë në mësimdhënie jashtë vendit përfshirë Lacy School of Business në SHBA, Corvinus University në Hungari, Universitetin e Mesinës në Itali dhe Universitetin e Alcalá-s në Spanjë. Është zgjedhur anëtare e Këshillit të Etikës të USh-së në periudhën 2016-2020. Është bashkëautore e një sërë referimesh dhe publikimesh në fushën e zhvillimit ekonomik në revista shkencore brenda dhe jashtë vendit.
